Strange behavior when saving the converted files.

Post by snipsnip »

Since the 3 options 'Action when duplicate name met while transcodingr' provide very mysterious results, I have carried out extensive tests.
At these tests the add list contained 4 lines. These 4 lines may not have been produced under the option 'Skip'! Otherwise the same happens
as described in this topic http://www.fame-ring.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=379.

General remarks for the options

Checkbox 'Rename': Shall this mean that the converted video is saved as a new file? Then it should be called 'Save as new file'.
Checkbox 'Replace': Shall this mean that the existing file is owerritten? Then it should be called 'Overwrite file'.
Checkbox 'Skip': Shall this mean that no file is saved? Then it should be called 'Save no file'.

Test results

1 Checkbox 'Rename' (Save as new file)
1.1 Using the red point button multiple.

The first file is called: Test.mpg.12.mpg. - Why this strange naming?
The 2nd file is called Test.0.mpg.
The 3rd file is called Test.1.mpg.
The 4th file is called Test.2.mpg.
Requirement: The names start at the first file with 'Test.0.mpg'. For better readableness better 'Test_0.mpg' than 'Test.0.mpg'

1.2 Using the button 'Record List!'
1.2.1 'link' is activated and I select an existing file to overwrite.
Error: A new file is produced although I pressed 'Yes'.
Requirement: The selected file must be overwritten!

1.2.2 'link' is activated and I write for the name of the transcoded file 'Test_new.mpg'.
Error: The name of the new file is 'Test_new.mpg.12.mpg'
Requirement: The new file name must be called 'Test_new.mpg'.

1.2.3 'link' is deactivated and a file exists with name 'Test.mpg.12.mpg'.
No error. 4 files Test.0.mpg to Test.3.mpg have been produced.

1.2.4 'link' is deactivated and no file exists with name of files to save.
Error: 4 files have been produced, but the first file is called 'Test.mpg.12.mpg'.
Requirement: The new file name must be called 'Test.0.mpg'.

2 Checkbox 'Replace' (Overwrite file)
2.1 Using the red point button.
Dangerous Error: A file can be overwritten unwanted - without message.
Requirement: An error message must appear: 'The file <name> already exists. Overwrite?'.

2.2 Using the button 'Record List!'
2.2.1 'link' is activated and I select the file 'Test.0.mpg'.
A message box appears: 'Test.0.mpg already exists. Would you like to replace her?' (Text translated from German system).

Error 1: A new file 'Test.0.mpg.12.mpg' is produced instead of overwriting the selected, although I pressed 'Yes'.
Error 2: If the file 'Test.0.mpg.12.mpg' exists this file is overwritten without warning!
Requirement: The selected file must be overwritten!

2.2.2 'link' is deactivated and a file exists with name 'Test.mpg.12.mpg'.
No error. 4 files Test.0.mpg to Test.3.mpg have been produced.

3 Checkbox 'Skip' (Save no file)
3.1 Using the red point button
Error: The message box 'Transcoding Complete!' appears immediate. In reality however no transcoding took place, because no file is saved.
Requirement: The message must read: 'The file <name> already exists. Therefore converting is stopped and no file saved.'.

3.2 Using the button 'Record List!'
3.2.1 'link' is activated and I select the file 'Test.0.mpg'.
A message box appears: ''Test.0.mpg already exists. Would you like to replace her?' (Text translated from German system).
Error 1: A new file 'Test.0.mpg.12.mpg' is produced instead of overwriting the selected, although I pressed 'Yes'.
Error 2: The file 'Test.0.mpg.12.mpg' is empty!
Error 3: If the file 'Test.0.mpg.12.mpg' exists no file is saved.
Requirement: 'Skip' may not have any one influence on 'Record List!'. The selected file must be overwritten!

3.2.2 'link' is deactivated and 1 ore more files exist with name of files to save.
No error. 4 new files have been produced.

3.2.3 'link' is deactivated and no file exists with name of files to save.
Error: 4 files have been produced, but the first file is called 'Test.mpg.12.mpg'.
Requirement: The new file name must be called 'Test.0.mpg'.

4 The file 'Test.0.mpg' is loaded
Error: '.0' is cut off by all names of the converted files.

5 Remarks
5.1 Using the button 'Record List!' while 'link' is activated: Only media files should be listed.

5.2 Discrepancy: During the conversion the dialog 'please wait for message: conversion done!' is shown.
The message window after converting contains 'Transcoding complete!' instead of 'Conversion done!'. Or in both cases 'Transcoding complete'?

5.3 The name of the file to be saved currently should be shown on the window 'please wait for message: conversion done!'.

5.4 The name of a loaded project file should be shown below the add list.

5.5 The dialog 'please wait for message: conversion done!' should be cleaned by the old entries befor he appears again.

5.5 In the video properties of SC the format second is used for the length of the video - this is not well readable. The format should be hh:mm:ss:xxx.
